Looking for things to do with kids in Los Angeles this weekend (May 30–31, 2026)? This is a strong museum-and-festival weekend: a free all-day block party at Kidspace, Skateside Fest in Culver City, Museums of the Arroyo Day, NHM dinosaurs, several free LACMA family programs—and a free Saturday-night silent disco at Irvine Spectrum if you are up for an Orange County drive.

Below are the best family picks by area, with quick parent notes so you can choose based on nap windows, budget, crowds, and how much stimulation everyone can handle.

Westside (Santa Monica, Miracle Mile, Culver City)

Wellness & Waves — Pilates (Saturday morning)

Free Saturday morning movement on the Santa Monica Pier: ocean air, structured class energy, and a built-in excuse to be done before lunch and nap debt hits.

Best for stroller families, babies, and parents who want a reset—not a full festival day. Bring layers; pier wind is real.

Mini plan: Wellness & Waves + Main Street Santa Monica

Do: Class first while everyone is fresh

Then: Short stroll on Main Street for coffee or a quick bite before sand fatigue sets in

Why this works: You get the pier reset without committing to a full beach day.

Family Art-Making Workshops: Collage Portraits (Saturday)

Free drop-in art at LACMA inspired by the museum's family programming—good for kids who like making things without a long gallery march.

Pair with snacks and a clear exit time; Saturday museum energy adds up fast.

Skateside Fest 2026 (Saturday & Sunday)

Skateside Fest brings live music, local vendors, and family-forward festival energy to Culver City—a high-energy pick if your crew likes music, food trucks, and wandering.

Go earlier with toddlers; older kids may last longer if you plan shade, bathrooms, and snack breaks.

Tip: If Saturday feels too loud, try Day 2 with a later start—or split the fest into a short visit plus a calm dinner at home.

Central LA / Exposition Park

Dinosaur Encounters + Nature Garden storytime

NHM is the indoor backup hero this weekend. Dinosaur Encounters is loud, exciting, and memorable—best for kids who like spectacle. Storytime in the Nature Garden is the gentler counterbalance on the same campus.

If your child is bug- or dino-cautious, frame it as "watching from a little farther back" rather than "you have to touch everything."

Pasadena / San Gabriel Valley

Kidspace Neighborhood Block Party (Sunday) — free all day

If you pick one marquee plan this weekend, make it this: Kidspace is free all day for a neighborhood block party with live entertainment, food trucks, a community mural, and summer campout-style play (stream, trikes, sing-alongs).

Arrive earlier for easier parking in Brookside Park; bring sunscreen, water, and realistic expectations about crowds. Great for mixed-age families and anyone who wants a "real occasion" feeling without ticket stress.

Museums of the Arroyo Day (Sunday)

Free admission at participating Pasadena-area museums—including family favorites along the Arroyo. This is the culture-forward Sunday pick when you want variety without paying separate admission at every stop.

Read each museum's hours before you go; "free day" weekends can still mean lines.

Pasadena Armenian Festival (Saturday)

Community festival energy with food, culture, and outdoor wandering—good when you want a neighborhood event that feels special but not as huge as a county fair.

Mini plan: Kidspace Block Party + ice cream reset

Do: Block party in the morning when temps are kinder

Then: Short treat stop on the drive home so nobody melts down in traffic

Why this works: You front-load the big energy before Sunday afternoon heat and tired legs.

South Bay / Orange County edge

Spectrum Silent Disco at Irvine Spectrum Center (Saturday evening)

Free outdoor silent disco at Irvine Spectrum Center — grab wireless headphones, pick your DJ channel, and dance near Old Navy / Torino Plaza (6:00–9:00 PM). Complimentary admission; RSVPs help the center plan headsets but headphones are first-come, first-served. Weather permitting.

Best for school-age kids and teens who like evening energy. Littler ones may prefer a 45–60 minute visit after an early dinner rather than staying the full three hours.

Mini plan: Silent Disco + Spectrum dinner

Do: Eat at the center first, then one headphone channel for a short dance set

Why this works: You get the fun without committing to a late, overtired meltdown drive home.

Platinum Performing Arts at Pretend City (Saturday)

Grown-up & Me dance workshops at Pretend City (Irvine)—structured, playful, and good for kids who like movement with a clear start and end.

Book ahead if tickets are required; members may have different rules on the museum site.

Sensory Friendly Families Morning (Sunday)

Worth checking if your child does better with lower sensory load—often a gentler museum or community format than a loud festival floor.

Sunday at LACMA (Miracle Mile)

Andell Family Sundays + Family Tours

Two good Sunday options at LACMA: free Andell Family Sundays programming and docent-led Family Tours (museum admission rules apply for tours—check the listing).

These work best when you want culture without an all-day commitment. Pack snacks and leave before gallery fatigue turns into negotiations.
