J. PERIOD and Josh Kun Present: The Art of the Crossfade (Musical Lecture)

Music historian and professor Josh Kun teams up with DJ/producer J.PERIOD (The Live Mixtape) for this free, three-part program over two days that explores music at the 250th anniversary of the United States. Night 1 will feature a musical lecture on the DJ crossfader, the horizontal slider on a mixer used to blend two distinct sound sources. Kun and J.PERIOD will explore how the idea of the "crossfade" can build bridges between cultures. Day 2 will begin with an afternoon community workshop and will culminate later that evening in The Live Mixtape: Crossfade Edition , a high-energy Hip Hop “mixtape” performed and recorded LIVE onstage in one take, featuring an all-star lineup of artists, musicians, DJs, and community voices.
